Abstract

This study aimed to determine the relationship between suturing and electro-cautery methods of Post-Tonsillectomy homeostasis in Imam Khomeini hospital- Kermanshah. An analytical study was performed on admitted patient's profiles from 2002-2004. Data collection sheet was applied to extract all variables. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used for data analysis. During that period 915 tonsillectomies have been performed. 412 suturing and 503 Electro-cautery homeostasis methods were applied. 0.2% of suturing group and 2.2% of electro-cautery group had Post –Tonsillectomy bleeding with a significant difference. Cautering is a practically easier, faster and more painless method than the suturing. It seems that cohort study is necessary to evaluate two homeostasis methods.
