Abstract

The present study investigated bacterial contamination of radiography equipment in Radiology Departments of Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences.
In this study 196 samples had taken from Radiography equipment surfaces of hospitals. The results showed that bacterial contaminations were existed in 91.7% of samples. The highest frequency of bacterial colonies was coagulase negative staphylococcus type (28.9%) and the highest relative contamination of radiography equipment was related to radiographic cassettes (40%).
This study confirmed that radiography equipments can act as bacterial reservoirs and has significant contribution to the releasing of nosocomial infections. The most important factors in bacterial contamination were radiology technicians' hands and severe weakness in the hygiene practice of radiology departments.
