The effect of pure and impure honey on Nausea, vomiting and headache of dysmenorrhea

Abstract

Background: Due to the importance and prevalence of dysmenorrhea and its effects on the lives of half of the world population, i.e. women, the study on treatment seems to be necessary. In this study the effects of pure and impure honey on Nausea, vomiting and headache of dysmenorrheal were evaluated.
Methods: The current study was a clinical trial, which was carried out on 60 students with primary dysmenorrhea. After menstrual initiation, one group took pure honey five teaspoons every other day in the morning until the next menstrual period. Then headaches, nausea and vomiting were assessed using Visual Analogue Scale in menstrual initiation, 1, 2 and 3 hours after its. The similar procedure was performed with one teaspoon of impure honey every other day in the second group. Data were analyzed using variance and non-parametric tests.
Results: A significant difference was observed in crossover design in the headache (p=0.002) (p=0.01), nausea & vomiting (p= 0.05) (p= 0.04) after using pure honey in two groups.  While there was no significant difference in headache (p=0.65) (p=0.42), nausea & vomiting (p= 0.51) (p= 0.31) after using the impure honey among groups.
Conclusion: Pure honey can be used for the prevention and treatment of menstrual symptoms inducing headache, nausea and vomiting.
