Abstract

Background: patient education is one of the most important roles of each nurse. This study was designed with the aim to determine barrier and facilitator factors of patient education in clinical nurse's point of view in selected hospitals of Shiraz University of medical science. Shiraz University of medical science was selected by Stratified random sampling. 37 items questionnaire was used for collecting data.
Results: in this study, barrier factors in participant's point of view were: lack of personnel in each shift 92.5%. Knowledge deficit 89.9%, lake of time 88.6%, lack of supportive system84.5%. Facilitator factors were: retraining in order to promote nurses Knowledge and skills, increase number of personnel in each shift. Preparing facilities, equipments and proper environment in order to educate patients. Average of total score of barrier and facilitator factors in women was more than men. There were no significant differences between Marriage status, type of employment and type of shift with Average of total score of barrier and facilitator factors.
Conclusion: retraining in order to promote nurses Knowledge and skills and Preparing facilities, equipments and proper environment in order to educate patients is recommended
